Dreams Made Flesh product reviews

The national bestselling Black Jewels trilogy established award-winning Anne Bishop as an author whose "sublime skill...blends the darkly macabre with spine-tingling emotional intensity, mesmerizing magic, lush sensuality, and exciting action." Now the saga continues-with four all-new adventures of Jaenelle and her kindred.

She is the most powerful Witch ever known, centuries of hope and dreams made of flesh at last...

Dreams Made Flesh is a collection of short stories that take place at different times either during the Black Jewels Trilogy or before/after. The four stories in the collection are 'Weaver of Dreams', 'The Prince of Ebon Rih', 'Zuulaman' and 'Kaeleer's Heart'. The stories follow various characters, tying up any loose ends and providing further insight into different characters and parts of the Black Jewels trilogy. I love this book. It's definitely one to read once you've finished the main trilogy, not only does it contain spoilers but I don't think you'd get the full emotional impact without having read the trilogy first.

'Weaver of Dreams' is the shortest story of the lot and tells a story from the very early history of the world.

'Prince of Ebon Rih' is Lucivar and Marian's story. The majority of this story is light hearted and fun but there are a few trials for them to overcome in their relationship. I liked this story a lot. I loved Marian's character and there were a lot of laugh out loud moments.

'Zuulaman' is a story from Saetan's past and tells us a little about him and his relationship with his sons and his ex-wife Hekatah. It's dark, gritty and really shows how manipulative Hekatah is - even more than we see in the main trilogy.

'Kaeleer's Heart' takes place after Queen of the Darkness (the last book in the trilogy) and follows the relationship between Daemon and Jaenelle and the trials that they face both during and after her recovery. I loved returning to these characters and hearing more of their story.

Dreams Made Flesh is a wonderful addition to the Black Jewels series. It's a bit of a mixed bag but each story is well written and only adds to our enjoyment and understanding of the trilogy and history of the world.
